Wisdom teeth don’t actually move the other teeth in your mouth. It’s a misconception that wisdom teeth cause overlap in other teeth.

Many people choose to wear braces to create a beautiful smile. Braces can improve your overall health. Catching crowding of the teeth early enough matters. You may be able to correct the problems with just a retainer. But this isn’t always the case.

If you do have braces, wisdom teeth won’t do anything to them. However, many people experience problems with theirs.  A fairly common problem is impacting. Impacting can be quite painful and can also cause oral health problems like gum disease.

The real problem is having surgery for wisdom teeth with braces on. Your orthodontist can give you a recommendation. Whether you should have your wisdom teeth removed before or after getting braces is an important health choice. Be informed.

For many people, this surgery is a non-issue because they are finished with their braces before they come in. These teeth tend to come in during the late teens or early twenties. Many people wear their braces when they are younger than this.

However, that’s not always the case. Have your orthodontist take a look to see if your wisdom teeth will need surgery during the time you are wearing braces. You don’t want to have surgery during or close to the addition of braces.
